One in ten Danish Moslems: OK to burn Danish Flags, Embassies

Note: The word ‘understanding’ used here is translated from the Danish “forståelse”. I was made aware that this may not connote the same way in Danish as in English. The correct Danish connotation is that of “empathy” or “sympathy”, meaning that the Moslems in question are bordering on endorsing or supporting the actions of their coreligionists in the Middle East.

Seeing as we spend about 10 Billion US$ (70 Billion DKK) AFAIR on immigrants each year, this certainly comes as a welcome surprise (yes, your shit-o-meter just detected sarcasm):

Jyllands-Posten, March 12, 2006
One in every ten Danish Moslems: Burning Danish flags is OK

Less than half of all Danish Moslems clearly reject the violent reactions in the Middle East to the Muhammed cartoons. And 11 Percent have “full understanding” for flag-burnings, embassy-demolitions and boycott of Danish goods, a survey done by Catinét for Ugebrevet A4 shows.

The survey was done in February among a representative section of Moslem refugees and immigrants in Denmark. Only two percent say that they identify more with Danes in the present situation, while 53 percent feel mostly Moslems and 36 percent identify themselves as both Moslems and Danes.

Minister for Integration Rikke Hvilshøj (Liberals) and the party leaders of the Social Democrats, the People’s Soicialists and the Danish People’s Party are all shocked at the weak backing and solidarity shown by Moslems in Denmark during the present crisis. They also say that they don’t understand the lack of support for Freedom of Speech.

The details are in circle diagrams in the sidebar on the page I just translated. Listed here.

Political Reactions (from here):
Rikke Hvilshøj (Liberals), Minister for Integration: “To the 11 percent who show sympathy for what happened in the Middle East I would say that they might want to reconsider if Denmark is really the right place for them to be.”

Helle Thorning-Schmidt, Leader of the Social Democrats: “It’s disappointing that we don’t have more who recognise that the Prime Minister cannot interfere with an independent newspaper’s right to print cartoons. We have a great need for dialogue about which values we believe in in Denmark. Among other things, we believe in a very far-reaching Freedom of Speech. We must insist that we have a way of social convention in Denmark that allows satire about religion and enables us to discuss religion in a very direct way. I think there is a need to say that very clearly.”

Villy Søvndal, Leader of the People’s Socialists: “I feel that I am deeply offended that my flag and my embassies burn and also to see that Denmark is villified across the globe. It’s absolutely decisive that immigrants in Denmark distance themselves from that with no reservations.”
Later he adds: “Many refugees and immigrants have come to Denmark because they been marginalised by religious regimes such as in Iran or in secular regimes such as in Iraq. I think we should make them spend some time pondering that. I find it completely incomprehensible that Freedom of Speech doesn’t mean more to them.”

Pia Kjærsgaard, Leader of the Danish People’s Party: “I simply do not understand that as a Moslem living in Denmark one can have so little understanding for this kind of thing. I simply do not understand it. It’s shocking, and so is the fact that only two percent say that they feel mostly Danish in the present situation. Many of those questioned are likely to be Danish citizens and it is possible to choose to be both a Moslem and a Dane.”

  1. Having “full understanding” for burning (whatever it must be) as a reaction to criticism, just confirmes WAFA SULTAN´s saying (can´t be repeated too much):
“It is a clash between a mentality that belongs to the Middle Ages and another
mentality that belongs to the 21st century. It is a clash between civilization
and backwardness, between the civilized and the primitive, between barbarity and rationality.”

I admire ths woman. I must be in love…

  3. If Denmark wants to survive as a nation, muslim immigration has to stop and muslim immigrants must be deported.
Nothing short of that will solve the problem,so the danish peoplemust make their decision:either they will become a muslim nation, start dressing their women in burqas and pray to Mecca 5 times/day,or stand up and fight, now.

  4. I may have to post this news on http://theultimateinsult.blogspot.com/ along with the recipe for “Savory Spam Crescents” (fatwa worthy, I’m sure). Mind if I credit you over there? I admit this news is not exactly unexpected, but the failure of Muslims to see the double standard should be shouted from the rooftops. Burn our flags, we’ll burn yours, including the sacred Saudi flag with its inclusion of the “shahada”. In fact, I think we should take up this practice in general. I’m sure I could light a Saudi flag better than those fellows at the “Islamic Thinker’s Society” fared with their Danish flag in their own video! Poor shahada chanting fools.

  7. You are doing a great job for Denmark. Thank you for providing to everybody - who support the free world. Since I’m a dane, well it’s sad to see how the leftwingers here, don’t support freedom as they do in France (http://www.jp.dk/kultur/artikel:aid=3611698/)

  8. Thanks! I need more time in the day. It appears that some of us bloggers have now been written up by Islamophobia Watch, the future dhimmis of the UK club. The cited a site where I contribute, the Infidel Bloggers Alliance http://ibloga.blogspot.com/ and made some interesting references to our posts.

  9. Denmark should deport all muslims who agree with the sentiments in the middle east. How can they support saudi arabia and ridicule their own country “denmark” in the process. I am an Indian Sikh in India and i support denmark throughly and totally because i love my freedom and it is for all like minded people of the world. Sat Sri Akal.
