In today’s Helsingin Sanomat (12.3.2006), a small but ‘note worthy’ article was published, concerning the Turkish Foreign Minister’s (Abdullah Gül) demand for a change to existing EU laws that would protect ‘all’ religions from disrespect. How one would define this ‘disrespect’ would be enough to trouble anyone who believes in the freedom of expression, but even more troubling is the response of Finland’s own Foreign Minister, Erkki Tuomioja. His being in agreement with the Turkish official’s demand, is extremely disturbing as it is foolish, and shows just how far Europe has fallen from its democratic liberalism. That a European FM would even willingly entertain such a thought, let alone indorse it, is chilling. KGS

I won’t be doing the dhimmi dance ever, especially for a Turk. I think I’m with the Pope on this one. Turks, look for comraderie elsewhere, you do not belong with Europe. How about some legislation condemning the mass slaughter of the native Christian population of Asia Minor? Otherwise, Gul can kiss my lovely Ionian Greek butt. Also, does anyone else here think that Abdullah Gul looks exactly like the largest of the 3 enemies from Krypton in the movie Superman 2?

Gul is an idiot.
In Europe Christianity gets hauled over the coals on a regular basis - therefore, according to the Turks, so can Islam. Our problem with him is that Islam gets treated with kid gloves - a case of all religions are equal but some are more equal than others.

Treating Islam as Christianity is treated would make a nice change!
