Turkey urges European Union to “examine its legislation”

UPDATE: Today is a day of happy tidings. See this post.

Turkey urges European Union to examine its legislation
The Turkish Foreign Minister to be a broker between the Islamic and the European countries.

Turkey asks the European Union to examine its legislation in order to avoid conflicts between the Moslem and Western world similar to what was seen in connection with the Muhammed-crisis.

So a draft of Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gül’s speech to be delivered at a convention of Foreign Ministers of the European Union at Salzburg today says.

The central points of the paper are expected to be delivered during a speech Saturday afternoon.

“I would ask you to begin reviewing your legislation to secure equal treatment for all religions, including Islam,” the paper states.

Gül is at the same time willing to be a partner for dialogue between the two cultures since Turkey has good relations with both parties.

Comment: We all know what this means. Don the burkhas ladies, its time to do some Turkish folk dancing.
*censored*infidel*censored*ckers.
When we know that this is the strongest opposition yet voiced:

And I think what we have to do is really engage with them, clearly speaking up about our fundamentals but also see where is, so to say, the border of that, the limit of that. And I think the limit of our Freedom of Speech is there where, indeed, the freedom of “the other” starts and where we have to show a responsibility and a respect and also tolerance for each other. But I also see it as a two-way street.

I think we know it’s time to do the Dhimmi dance.

And that was from the Foreign Commissioner of the EU, Benita Ferrero Waldner yesterday.

  1. Gul is an idiot.
In Europe Christianity gets hauled over the coals on a regular basis - therefore, according to the Turks, so can Islam. Our problem with him is that Islam gets treated with kid gloves - a case of all religions are equal but some are more equal than others.

Treating Islam as Christianity is treated would make a nice change!

    Bah! Humbug!

  2. Take them at their word and treat all religions equally.

Repeal Holocaust Denial laws and permit all religions to be subject to equal ridicule.

  3. I won’t be doing the dhimmi dance ever, especially for a Turk. I think I’m with the Pope on this one. Turks, look for comraderie elsewhere, you do not belong with Europe. How about some legislation condemning the mass slaughter of the native Christian population of Asia Minor? Otherwise, Gul can kiss my lovely Ionian Greek butt. Also, does anyone else here think that Abdullah Gul looks exactly like the largest of the 3 enemies from Krypton in the movie Superman 2?

Winston Churchill had an opinion about this 100 years ago:

This is what the Vatican thinks: “the West must also have greater confidence in the well-founded nature of its own principles and show more firmness against all attacks on its principles.
“It certainly wasn’t expected that the West defend Christians as such, but it was its duty to defend the principle of freedom of conscience and of religion.”

In today’s Helsingin Sanomat (12.3.2006), a small but ‘note worthy’ article was published, concerning the Turkish Foreign Minister’s (Abdullah Gül) demand for a change to existing EU laws that would protect ‘all’ religions from disrespect. How one would define this ‘disrespect’ would be enough to trouble anyone who believes in the freedom of expression, but even more troubling is the response of Finland’s own Foreign Minister, Erkki Tuomioja. His being in agreement with the Turkish official’s demand, is extremely disturbing as it is foolish, and shows just how far Europe has fallen from its democratic liberalism. That a European FM would even willingly entertain such a thought, let alone indorse it, is chilling. KGS

PS I tried a backtrack ping but it didn’t work, that’s the reason for leaving this in the comment section.
